Something isn't working on the boat? Try these things first before calling for help. In alphabetical order based by appliance name.
Air Conditioning= Always clean the laker water filter before running the AC. If you don't it can burn up the motor and you will need to buy a new one for $600. If the air conditioning keeps tripping the breaker, check the Lake Water Filter. Clean it out again, especially if you are in an area with a lot of debris.
Also check to see if too many things are on and running. Turn off a few things and just run the AC only.
Engine=
Faucets= If the lake water is coming out stinky or slow flow. Check the lake water filter. Clean it out. Also check the screens in the actual faucet. They get clogged if you are parked in an area with debris or low water.
Generator= If the generator just clicks but will not start, most likely the battery is just dead. Open the engine compartment and jump the generator battery from another battery on board. Pay attention to what might be draining the generator battery.
If you are not getting power from the generator while it is running. Most likely the generator breaker has tripped. This happens from using the microwave and AC sometimes. So open the engine compartment. Turn the generator off and then back on. Find the breaker on the top right of the red generator. It is a red lever. Flip it and you will hear the generator bog down. That is how you know it is working again. If it doesn't bog down or there is still no ac power when you look at the power meter above the helm. Then flip the breaker again.
Hot water heater=
Lake Water Level= if you go to http://lakepowell.water-data.com/ (there is also a link on the home page) it will tell you what the water level will be when you go on your trip. I like to compare it to the level the last time I was there to know if the same beaches will be there or not. You can also see if the water level is rising or dropping. This will help you know if you need to let your anchor ropes out a bit each day to avoid getting beached.
Microwave= There is an inverter in the cupboard to the right of the oven. This inverter must be turned on to run the microwave and stove ignitor. If the inverter is on but keeps getting tripped then the battery is dead. Run the generator for a while to charge that battery again. Turn the inverter off when you are not actively using the microwave.
Parking in the slip= When pulling in and out of the slip, it is easiest to go on the outside of the boueys (between the land and the boueys) It is plenty deep there. That way you do not have to turn as tight. It gives you plenty of room to get lined up. Have a person at the front right corner of the boat, ready to throw someone at the dock a rope. They tie off to the dock. Then you can pivot and get your back swung around and lined up to go in. Once you are lined up, you can untie and slowly creep in. Also know that is much harder maneuvering in the wind. Plan your trip so that you avoid the afternoon winds while fueling, dumping and parking. Mornings are usually the calmest and best time for this.
Refrigerators= If the fridges are beeping and not turned on, press the mode key to change it to propane or dc power. Make sure all fridge switches are turned on and the propane up top handle is turned to "open". If none of this works, press the power buttons on the fridge to turn them off and then back on again.
IIf you are still having problems with refrigerators getting power. Check the GFI switches. Reset them. There is one located next to the music radio on the helm. There is also another located on the other side of the room.
Remember to leave the fridges turned on to shore power when you leave the boat so the next group has cold fridges to put away their food.
Stove Ignitor= There is an inverter in the cupboard to the right of the stove. This inverter must be turned on to run the microwave and stove ignitor. If the inverter is on but keeps getting tripped then the battery is dead. Run the generator for a while to charge that battery again. Turn the inverter off when you are not actively using the stove or microwave. You can also light the stove with a match or lighter with the knob turned to the light position.
Toilets= If they stink... Read the label on the liquid chemical and put in as directed. After you flush the toilet leave an inch of water in the bowl to seal the smell down. We have recently switched to a liquid chemical and it helped a ton. Any time we smelled a stink, we added a couple more ounces of liquid chemical. It was by far our best smelling trip. Also if you have added plenty of chemical but you are still getting stink, think about adding water. It is common for people to pee in the lake and so the tanks mostly have solids in them. The chemical can only digest the waste if it is covered with liquid mixed with chemical. Hold the foot peddle down and add enough water to cover the waste.
When you dump the sewage, read the bacteria bottle (different from chemical) and add bacteria to the tanks. This will help clean the tanks while they are "empty".
TV and DVD player= The tv and dvd player are plugged into an inverter in the cupboard underneath them. This inverter has to be turned on to run them. There is a chance someone moved the plug into the outlet at the back of the cupboard. In that case, you would need to turn on the generator to get power to the tv and dvd player. You will save gas by just plugging them back into the inverter. If the inverter squeals, it means you need to run the generator to charge that battery again.
